How to Set-Up a Virtual Desktop

In light of the recent COVID-19 global pandemic that is currently changing the lives of millions of us, we are all looking for ways to minimise the impact on our day to day lives. Obviously not an easy task.

I have been considering how we will manage the next few weeks (and possibly) months, here at MLJ Systems. The truth is, at this stage, we just don’t know yet. One positive we do have, is that as a tech company we have the ability to fully embrace remote working.

By leveraging the cloud, and fast broadband we will be able to continue working as a team. This might not be simple for your business, but no matter what your business is, tech will be able to help. Even if it is in a small way. This might be by providing regular updates about your opening times/status to your clients via a mass email. It might be allow staff to collaborate using Microsoft Teams, or it might be by providing a fully integrated Office365 environment to your business.

Setting up a PC for use anywhere

One way to achieve continuity is to use a remote desktop, hosted in the cloud. This is a PC which you can log into from anywhere. This is a simple example of how you might set that up using Microsoft Azure as the platform. https://azure.microsoft.com/

Windows Virtual Desktop is a comprehensive desktop and app virtualisation service running in the cloud. If you have not used Azure before, then you can get instant access and a £150 credit by signing up for a free Azure account.

We are providing a link to their Quick Start tutorial (for the technically minded), but if you would like some assistance, or even a quick chat then please get in touch and we will do all we can to help you out.
